A classical style sculpture made with modern technologies. This bust of Michelangelo’s David was derived from a 3D scan of an original sculpture held at the Staten Museum of Art in Copenhagen. The 3D scan was done by an organisation call ScantheWorld and provided as a 3D model for free download. These 3D scans and models of classical Greek and Roman sculptures gave rise to a series of works I call 'Digital Echoes', in which I explore various ways for the 3D scans to be expressed in physical mediums.

This sculpture was CNC cut from a black corrugated plastic sheet material used throughout the commercial printing industry. The resulting pieces were then assembled by hand to give the finished product. The many layers and the fluting inside the material give this piece a unique look, as well as being durable and light-weight. The black material of this sculptures means it works beautifully with strong light sources such as lamps and windows. The highlights and shadows create definition and a sense of life.
