Handmaking the Digital

2019 - Cardboard, plaster and paint

My residency at Carmarthen School of Art gave me the opportunity to research my own work and collaborate with other artists. This piece is a great example of both. The burnt sienna print on the left was made by fellow artist in residence Rhodri Rees. I used the 2-dimensional image to create a series of high and low points on a digital model. The sculpture was then cut from a sheet of cardboard using templates derived from the 3D model and covered in plaster. I finished with burnt sienna paint in order to match the source image.
