The Whitland Madonna and Child

2019 - Reclaimed Welsh Slate

Overlooking the beautiful gardens at the Holy Cross abbey in Whitland, this sculpture brings together digital technology with natural hand-worked materials. A truly site specific piece, the design for the Madonna and Child was derived from photogrammetry of small statue the nuns had in the abbey. The slate used was from the old roof of the abbey which needed to be replaced, and was all hand chipped to shape on site and then assembled in the gardens.
