2020 - Galvanised steel bin and fire bricks

'Binny' is a furnace I made with my partner and fellow artist Fay Palkimas. Made using a leaf burning bin and reclaimed fire bricks, this furnace can easily melt aluminium in a crucible with BBQ coals and a leaf blower. Fay focused on the design and brickwork of the furnace whilst I was responsible for the metalwork and creation of tools, which were upcycled from some metal shelving. We have since purchased a propane burner from Moltan, a welsh company specialising in metal casting and furnace building. With this upgrade Binny will be melting bronze in no time!
